Three-Day Fall Adventure to Southwest Wisconsin

posted Sep 8, 2017, 10:28 AM by NorthStarBMW Driving Tours Coordinator

Friday, September 29th thru Sunday, October 1st

Southwest Wisconsin is known for some spectacular backroads and our fall trip is headed that direction!  Come join your BMW friends on an enjoyable ride featuring great attractions, beautiful scenery, delicious food and, of course, fabulous roads.  The trip is limited to 12 couples, so don't delay in signing up.

Here's what we plan to see along the way.  We will depart from Apple Valley on Friday, September 29 at 9:00 a.m.  Headed southeast along the Mississippi River, we'll cross into Wisconsin at Winona and will make sure to traverse the always entertaining Mindoro Cut northeast of LaCrosse.  We all know our BMWs prefer backroads, so we plan to avoid freeways and interstates at all costs.  Our lodging on Friday night will be at the Hillsboro Hotel in Hillsboro, WI.

Saturday we will head south towards the arts and crafts town of Mineral Point.  (https://mineralpoint.com) That weekend is the local Cornish Festival celebrating the lead mining legacy that once made this area famous (www.cornishfest.org).  We'll check out the festivities and will even discover why Wisconsin is called the Badger State due to the history of Mineral Point.  We may even find a traditional pasty for lunch.

Next we will head east on backroads to New Glarus to enjoy the New Glarus Brewery, the home of Spotted Cow Beer (www.newglarusbrewing.com).  Once we have had enough of the brewery, we will tour the quaint Swiss downtown before departing for our lodging destination for the night, the House on the Rock Resort located outside Spring Green.

Sunday is reserved for a tour of the legendary House on the Rock (www.thehouseontherock.com). If you have never been there, you are in for an unusual and memorable experience.  Even if you have toured in the past, new attractions are being added all the time, so you are bound to see something new.  Feel free to stay as long as you like and head back to the Twin Cities as your schedule allows.

Interested?  If so, here are the steps you need to take to reserve your spot on this spectacular Fall road trip.

First, visit MotorsportReg and sign up for the trip (www.motorsportreg.com).  There is no cost to register, but of course, you are responsible for all costs incurred along the way (meals, hotels, gas, admission costs, etc.)

Next, you need to register for your hotel rooms for both Friday and Saturday night.  Contact the hotels directly and indicate you are part of the BMW Car Club room block.

Annual Member Appreciation Picnic

posted Jul 19, 2017, 4:29 PM by NorthStarBMW Driving Tours Coordinator   [ updated Sep 6, 2017, 1:03 PM by NorthStarBMW Webmaster ]

Just a reminder that this Saturday is the North Star Chapter Summer BBQ and New Member Reception.

In what has become a long-standing tradition the Summer BBQ and New Member Reception is coming up! We want to invite ALL of the members of the North Star Chapter of the BMW CCA to help welcome the new members that have joined the North Star Chapter over the previous year. To the new members we want to extend a special invitation to you and your whole family (aah, except the pets) for the up-coming North Star Summer BBQ. Fine food, good friends, and four-wheel euphoria will be in abundance.

This year we are privileged to have joining us Jeff Brown from Griot’s Garage who will be providing demonstrations and instruction on various techniques to make sure your BMW (or Mini, or for that matter, any vehicle!) is kept looking as good as possible. He is a very experienced car-care technician and I know he will be able to enlighten us with his knowledge.

Here are the details:

What: Our Annual Summer BBQ and New Member Reception
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 (Food: 11:30am – 1:30pm, Griot’s Garage is starting about 12:00 noon, with socializing until around 3:00pm)
Where: Brookview Park in Golden Valley, MN (Directions below)
This is known as one of the premier events of the year and if you miss it, you do miss out. The entire family can enjoy this event so gather round the spouse and offspring and head out for a good time on this weekend.

This event is open to ALL members. After all, we want people to get a chance to meet and get to know each other, old and new members alike.

The food, oh yes the food. We will have typical but splendid picnic food for your epicurean pleasure. The chapter provides all the food, soft drinks, plates, condiments, etc., all you have to do is show up.

Our generous sponsors and supporters will provide door prizes. The booty list is not complete but historically your chances of going away with a prize are very good. Be sure to stick around for the drawing.

It really helps our planning if we have an idea of how many people will be attending as we need to make sure we have enough for all. You can RSVP through MotorsportReg.com.

Thank you!

Brookview Parkway North, Brookview Pkwy N, Golden Valley, MN 55426, USA

Experience A Special Screening of The New BMW Film With Its Creators!

posted Mar 13, 2017, 10:48 AM by NorthStarBMW Webmaster

Experience A Special Screening of The New BMW Film With Its Creators!

You’re invited to a very special screening of the new BMW Film “The Escape” at a spectacular venue: The beautifully restored, historic Heights Theater. “The Escape” is an action-packed salute to the Fifteenth Anniversary of the groundbreaking BMW Films. Created in 2001, the original eight short films starred Clive Owen as a mysterious driver for hire and featured a who’s who of top Hollywood directors and actors.

Presenting the new film will be its Executive Producer, Bruce Bildsten. Bruce led the team who created of the original films at the legendary Minneapolis ad agency Fallon in 2001 and was invited by BMW, along with former Fallon Producer Brian DiLorenzo, to create the big budget new film. Joining them will be Minneapolis director Patrick Pierson who filmed all the behind the scenes of the massive production. Bruce will not only share the new film on the big screen, but also revisit a few of the originals, as well as share behind the scenes content.

“The Escape” stars Clive Owen along with Jon Bernthal, Dakota Fanning and Vera Farmiga. Directed by Oscar-nominated director Neill Blomkamp, the stunts were coordinated the legendary Guy Norris. Like Norris’ “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Escape’s” extraordinary stunts were created with minimal special effects. And all of Owen’s driving was done by the Chief Driving Instructor at BMW’s Performance Driving School, Matt Mullins.

It will be an evening of BMW at its very best in a very special venue. Don’t miss it.

We will be meeting at The Heights Theater at 7pm, March 23 from 7 to 9pm.  The event is free and open to everyone.  It would be helpful, but not necessary, to express your intention to attend on our Face Book page at:  https://www.facebook.com/northstarbmw/

More information on The Heights is available at:  http://www.heightstheater.com/  It is a great area with ethnic restaurants and bars if you decide to make an evening of it.
